What USB browser? Portable alternative, no install
A USB browser is about the physical stick: you launch from flash storage, unplug, and take the session with you. Hotel business centres, backstage Windows boxes, a friend’s laptop at a wedding — the media is the point. Capsule was built for that: about 15 MB native on the stick, no installer, no admin rights. It is not Pioneer rekordbox export for CDJs; label your sticks, they are different objects.
What a USB browser is — flash media, unplug, the host unchanged
The stick is the computer you brought
People type “USB browser” when they picture a physical key in a USB-A port that still exists behind a DJ booth. Capsule is built for that picture. Copy the file onto FAT or exFAT as the host allows and launch from the media. When you pull the stick you leave the house PC as you found it — no Start menu leftover and no “please restart to finish setup.” That is the exclusive gesture of the medium. A portable folder on an internal NVMe is still portable, but that is not this query — the portable-browser guide carries the architecture, and the Web-browser guide covers the HTTP side. Capsule from the download is the payload; USB is how you walk it in.
Cheap flash, slow buses and honest copy time
USB 2.0 behind a mixer is not a Thunderbolt creative disk. A 200 MB Chromium tree copies like a small film; a 15 MB native USB browser copies like a PDF. That is why size matters on media, even though RAM feeling has its own page (the lightweight-browser guide) and the exact number lives on the 15 MB page. Format drama is real: some locked PCs only mount the stick read-write if you did not use a fancy cluster size. Test once at home on a throwaway key, then clone a working copy for the road. Festival weeks make the verified USB browser the default because a second Chromium will not finish copying before doors.
A browser USB stick, separate from CDJ export or a live Linux key
Rekordbox export is a library for Pioneer players. Capsule USB is a browser for a computer. Mixing those up in a bag is how someone slots the wrong stick into a CDJ, which the rekordbox alternative page covers. A live Linux USB is an operating system; Capsule is a process you start on the OS that is already there. The no-admin and no-install guides cover the overlap in practice, but the exclusive keyword here is the flash. PIN and Hello still make sense on a borrowed PC, and the vault stays on the device you hold.
A booth on a stick, beside the dedicated DJ suites
If the USB browser also hosts Komby DJ, Nightclub PRO talks ASIO, MIDI and DVS as a bridge. Mixing works offline like historical software, Icecast needs a network and the PRO licence has a seven-day grace. The pro-audio page carries the setup. A Chrome wrap from the same stick (if someone made one) still cannot reach ASIO. Do not expect a USB browser to become VirtualDJ — that comparison lives on the VirtualDJ alternative page. Do expect the house PC to remain a host you did not install onto. The DJ-browser guide covers the category.
Use this USB browser — walk the medium in, walk it out
- Copy Capsule from the download onto a labelled stick, test on a PC you do not administer and clone the stick.
- Keep Pioneer export on a different colour of USB. Capsule is the USB browser for a computer, not a CDJ library.
- For a folder without flash, see the portable-browser guide; for policy machines, see the no-admin-browser guide.
- The Capsule home page summarises the product in one line.
FAQ
Is Capsule a USB browser?
Yes. Capsule is a native USB browser: ~15 MB on flash, launch, unplug, no admin. /download.
Can I use the same stick in a CDJ?
Do not. Capsule USB is a computer browser. Pioneer export is rekordbox. /news/alternative-to-rekordbox.
Does a USB browser require Windows only?
No. Capsule’s folder runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux from the same travel idea.
Who ships this USB browser?
Komby Limited. Home: /.
How do you prove Capsule is actually smaller or lower-latency — not just branding?
Weigh the copied Capsule folder (about 15 MB stated; Demucs extra). Launch with no admin. For audio: Settings > Audio, buffer 128 at 48 kHz ≈ 2.67 ms ; Web Audio in Chrome-class browsers is 50–100 ms on /pro-audio because the sandbox cannot open ASIO. Komby Limited. No invented competitor installer sizes.
Do I still need Dashlane, 1Password or Bitwarden if I use Capsule?
Not for the local vault job. Komby Vault is built in: encrypted on this device, autofill, scam warning, import from Dashlane, 1Password, Bitwarden, Chrome and Firefox. It is not Dashlane’s cloud sync. Keep a cloud manager only if you require their SaaS. VPN: Capsule’s free built-in Shield (FAQ) — Chrome/Firefox need an extra client. Nightclub audio is a separate PRO licence. Komby Limited. /download.
What makes Capsule a motion-design browser — is that just marketing?
Check the chrome. Changelog 3.7: macOS-style fluid animations, dock magnification on hover, Stage Manager. 3.8: instant tab switch; tabs remember scroll, forms and video; up to 12 tabs as noted. 3.12: no previous-page flash, snappier start, live address bar. Chrome/Firefox do not ship that dock. Safari’s motion is the Apple OS, not a ~15 MB USB browser. No invented animation numbers. Komby Limited. /download.
Is Capsule the first portable browser in the world?
No. Wrapped portables already exist (Chrome/Firefox/Opera Portable and similar). Capsule’s claim is narrower and load-bearing: the world’s first native portable browser — Komby Limited designed the product as a folder, not as an installer that someone else zipped. Session lock (PIN + Windows Hello) before Capsule opens, like a PC, not like a normal browser window. /download.
