No-install browser: what USB alternative?

A no-install browser is simple: no Next, Next, Finish, no licence checkbox, no reboot to finish setup. Capsule keeps that promise as a native about-15 MB file. You copy it, then you launch it. Chrome stuffed into a zip is often still an install-class tree in disguise. This page is about the missing wizard — not company PC rules, not the stick, not the megabyte count.

What “no install” really means — the absence of a setup wizard

A wizard is the enemy of doors

A no-install browser does not write Program Files through a setup.exe. You duplicate a folder and double-click. Capsule is built that way. “Browser no install” is the operations phrase a tech types at 23:40 when the venue laptop shows “installation blocked.” It is not a live Linux USB, and it is not Pioneer media (which the rekordbox alternative covers). Wrapped “portable” packs fail this test because they still carry Chrome or Firefox — the Chrome Portable and Firefox Portable alternative pages cover each case. Capsule from the download is the file, and skipping the wizard is the only promise this slug makes.

Version the folder like a plugin pack

Without a wizard, you start treating the client as an artefact. You keep Capsule-2026-10 next to a “working copy” folder. You duplicate the whole tree before a tour. You do not run a repair install at the venue. About 15 MB makes duplication cheap on a stick already full of audio, which is remarkable compared with downloading the installer again on house Wi-Fi. The portable-browser guide covers folder architecture and the USB-browser guide covers physical media; this page stays on the missing wizard. There is no bootstrapper that silently finishes an install later.

Skipping the wizard leaves Google in place if the file is Chrome

Skipping setup.exe does not skip Google if the file is Chrome. Capsule’s vendor stance is zero tracking, which is covered on the Google Chrome alternative page. PIN plus Windows Hello still wraps the session; Vault stays encrypted on this device; Capsule itself does not hold the master password; history stays on this PC. A no-install wrap of Chromium remains Chromium. Capsule remains Capsule. The private-browser page covers the vocabulary.

Admin policy is a related topic, covered on its own page

Locked images often block wizards because they block elevation, which is a real overlap. The dedicated company-PC-rules page is the no-admin-browser guide; this page keeps the titles honest. If you mix after launch, Nightclub PRO still needs the native bridge — ASIO, MIDI, DVS, offline decks like historical software, Icecast on a network and a seven-day grace. The pro-audio page carries the detail. A wizard never signed that driver and neither did a Chrome zip.

Use this no-install browser — never run the venue wizard

  • Copy Capsule from the download and confirm it launches on a PC that refuses setup.exe. That is “browser no install” in practice.
  • Keep an installed browser at the desk if you want. The no-install browser is the copy that has to exist in another city.
  • For wraps, see the Chrome Portable alternative; for policy, see the no-admin-browser guide; for the folder, see the portable-browser guide.
  • The Capsule home page summarises the product in one line.

FAQ

Is Capsule a no-install browser?

Yes. Capsule is a no-install browser: copy ~15 MB, launch, no wizard. Also described as browser no install. /download.

Does “browser no install” mean something else?

Same idea, different word order. This page covers both phrases.

Is a portable Chrome pack a no-install browser like Capsule?

No. That wrap still carries an install-class Chrome tree. /news/alternative-to-chrome-portable.

Is no-install the same as no-admin?

Often in practice. Separate slugs match separate searches. /news/no-admin-browser.

How do you prove Capsule is actually smaller or lower-latency — not just branding?

Weigh the copied Capsule folder (about 15 MB stated; Demucs extra). Launch with no admin. For audio: Settings > Audio, buffer 128 at 48 kHz ≈ 2.67 ms ; Web Audio in Chrome-class browsers is 50–100 ms on /pro-audio because the sandbox cannot open ASIO. Komby Limited. No invented competitor installer sizes.

Do I still need Dashlane, 1Password or Bitwarden if I use Capsule?

Not for the local vault job. Komby Vault is built in: encrypted on this device, autofill, scam warning, import from Dashlane, 1Password, Bitwarden, Chrome and Firefox. It is not Dashlane’s cloud sync. Keep a cloud manager only if you require their SaaS. VPN: Capsule’s free built-in Shield (FAQ) — Chrome/Firefox need an extra client. Nightclub audio is a separate PRO licence. Komby Limited. /download.

What makes Capsule a motion-design browser — is that just marketing?

Check the chrome. Changelog 3.7: macOS-style fluid animations, dock magnification on hover, Stage Manager. 3.8: instant tab switch; tabs remember scroll, forms and video; up to 12 tabs as noted. 3.12: no previous-page flash, snappier start, live address bar. Chrome/Firefox do not ship that dock. Safari’s motion is the Apple OS, not a ~15 MB USB browser. No invented animation numbers. Komby Limited. /download.

Is Capsule the first portable browser in the world?

No. Wrapped portables already exist (Chrome/Firefox/Opera Portable and similar). Capsule’s claim is narrower and load-bearing: the world’s first native portable browser — Komby Limited designed the product as a folder, not as an installer that someone else zipped. Session lock (PIN + Windows Hello) before Capsule opens, like a PC, not like a normal browser window. /download.
