What DJ browser? USB alternative
A DJ browser is the promise of the gig: you arrive at the booth with a stick, open decks, talk to the sound card, and leave the house PC untouched. Capsule keeps that promise in an about-15 MB folder — USB, no admin rights, Komby DJ in the window, Nightclub PRO for the audio bridge. It is not a clone of Serato, Traktor, rekordbox, VirtualDJ, or Mixxx; those remain dedicated mix tools. This page defines the category: the browser that travels with the set.
What a DJ browser is — a computer host for decks, not a CDJ and not a fake Serato
The gig runs from a laptop browser you carry on USB
People type “DJ browser” when the mixer host is a PC: you open the surface, play files and go home. Capsule is that DJ browser; Chrome is not — it sits on sandboxed Web Audio, often tens of milliseconds late, with no ASIO. The Google Chrome alternative page covers that version. A DJ browser is also not a CDJ: rekordbox USB for Pioneer players is a different object, and the rekordbox alternative page covers it. Capsule from the download is the computer client; you do not slot it into a player. “Legendary” here simply means the stick still launches when the dedicated suite cannot be installed — not a ranking.
Offline like the software that lived on disks
Komby DJ 4-Deck inside Capsule covers four virtual turntables with waveforms, EQ, effects, hot cues and loops, and komby.music keeps two decks on Web Audio for homework. Nightclub PRO adds four decks plus ASIO, MIDI, DVS, stems and recording. You mix from local files on disk or USB with no venue portal — the way older DJ applications worked when the internet was a luxury. Icecast broadcasting still needs a network, and the PRO licence has a seven-day offline grace. Demucs models download separately rather than hiding inside 15 MB, and WAV, MP3 and FLAC recording are supported. The driver detail lives on the ASIO-browser page and the pad and LED notes on the MIDI-browser page — those are not copied in here.
A bridge to the booth without cloning another skin
DVS reads Serato, Traktor Scratch, rekordbox and MixVibes timecode as interoperability. Listing tones is not stealing a mixer. VirtualDJ skins stay inside VirtualDJ; Mixxx crates stay inside Mixxx; Traktor remix-deck lore stays with Native Instruments; Serato vinyl colour stays with Serato. The DJ browser is Capsule plus Komby DJ — a different instrument that happens to share a USB port with those histories.
Load-in forbids installers
A DJ browser you cannot copy is useless. Capsule launches from USB with no admin, and the USB-browser, no-install-browser and portable-browser guides each cover one angle. Leave the host as you found it, add a PIN plus Vault if the laptop is shared, and treat the zero-tracking vendor stance as a product position rather than an afterthought. For soundcheck, the pro-audio page is the reference.
Use this DJ browser — dedicated mixer at home, stick at the door
- Copy Capsule onto the stick, open Komby DJ, confirm that files play offline and then move to the pro-audio page for ASIO.
- Do not expect VirtualDJ skins or Pioneer player export. Those are two different jobs on two different folders.
- Clone the stick after one locked-laptop test. Festival weeks make the verified DJ browser the default.
- The Capsule home page carries the summary.
FAQ
Is Capsule a DJ browser?
Yes. Capsule is a legendary DJ browser: ~15 MB USB, Komby DJ, native PRO audio. It is not a Serato clone. /download.
Can Chrome be a DJ browser with an extension?
No. Sandboxed Web Audio cannot reach ASIO. /news/alternative-to-google-chrome.
Does this DJ browser replace rekordbox USB in a CDJ?
No. Pioneer export stays rekordbox. Capsule USB is a browser for a computer. /news/alternative-to-rekordbox.
Does mixing need club internet?
No for local files, ASIO, MIDI, DVS, recording. Icecast needs a network. PRO: 7-day grace.
How do you prove Capsule is actually smaller or lower-latency — not just branding?
Weigh the copied Capsule folder (about 15 MB stated; Demucs extra). Launch with no admin. For audio: Settings > Audio, buffer 128 at 48 kHz ≈ 2.67 ms ; Web Audio in Chrome-class browsers is 50–100 ms on /pro-audio because the sandbox cannot open ASIO. Komby Limited. No invented competitor installer sizes.
Do I still need Dashlane, 1Password or Bitwarden if I use Capsule?
Not for the local vault job. Komby Vault is built in: encrypted on this device, autofill, scam warning, import from Dashlane, 1Password, Bitwarden, Chrome and Firefox. It is not Dashlane’s cloud sync. Keep a cloud manager only if you require their SaaS. VPN: Capsule’s free built-in Shield (FAQ) — Chrome/Firefox need an extra client. Nightclub audio is a separate PRO licence. Komby Limited. /download.
What makes Capsule a motion-design browser — is that just marketing?
Check the chrome. Changelog 3.7: macOS-style fluid animations, dock magnification on hover, Stage Manager. 3.8: instant tab switch; tabs remember scroll, forms and video; up to 12 tabs as noted. 3.12: no previous-page flash, snappier start, live address bar. Chrome/Firefox do not ship that dock. Safari’s motion is the Apple OS, not a ~15 MB USB browser. No invented animation numbers. Komby Limited. /download.
Is Capsule the first portable browser in the world?
No. Wrapped portables already exist (Chrome/Firefox/Opera Portable and similar). Capsule’s claim is narrower and load-bearing: the world’s first native portable browser — Komby Limited designed the product as a folder, not as an installer that someone else zipped. Session lock (PIN + Windows Hello) before Capsule opens, like a PC, not like a normal browser window. /download.
