rekordbox alternative: how do I replace rekordbox?

rekordbox is Pioneer DJ’s premium library: analysis, USB export, CDJ friendship, and a DVS option for people already in that hardware family. Capsule does not try to become another rekordbox. It is an about-15 MB browser on a stick, with decks that clock in the window and native ASIO when Nightclub PRO is on. Pioneer’s CDJ export remains a different object — label your sticks; they are not the same tools.

Why Capsule is a better carry than installing rekordbox on every backline PC

A library suite versus a capsule with decks inside

rekordbox earns its keep as a librarian and as a USB stick for Pioneer players: analyse at home, export, walk the stick to the CDJs. Capsule earns its keep as a portable browser. Komby DJ 4-Deck lives inside that browser, and a two-deck Web Audio version lives at komby.music. You can prepare files on disk, but there is no one-click clone of rekordbox XML or player export, and this page will not invent one. If the gig is “my USB in their CDJs,” keep rekordbox — that is Pioneer’s premium path. If the gig is “my USB runs the software because their PC is locked,” Capsule is the premium small tool. A backline Windows box with no admin is a different sport from a NXS4 USB slot.

Controllers without a counterfeit Pioneer skin

MIDI covers more than fifty mappings, with Pioneer sitting on the list alongside Denon, Hercules, Numark, Native Instruments, Roland, Reloop and Rane, together with USB auto-detect, MIDI Guard, Learn and LED feedback. Settings > Audio and Rescan handle the moment a USB hub went to sleep. Capsule will not ship a counterfeit rekordbox pad layout or a fake CDJ screen in software — map the unit you brought, and hot cues and loops live inside Komby DJ’s own surface. That honesty keeps the page close to the MIDI-browser guide rather than inside a clone-lawsuit fantasy.

rekordbox DVS as one timecode among four

PRO DVS reads vinyl or CDJs. The timecode families include rekordbox DVS alongside Serato, Traktor Scratch and MixVibes Cross, in absolute, relative and constant modes, with needle-drop, Auto-Tune Scratch and XY Monitor. The clock stays ASIO under 5 ms with 128 samples around 2.7 ms, WASAPI Exclusive around 10 ms, CoreAudio under 10 ms and JACK under 5 ms, at 44.1 or 48 kHz. Demucs stems are extra rather than hidden inside the 15 MB, WAV, MP3 and FLAC recording are supported, and the whole thing mixes offline like historical DJ software for local playback. Icecast still needs a network, and the PRO licence has a seven-day grace. The pro-audio page carries the rest.

Replace rekordbox when Pioneer’s suite is the wrong install

  • Keep rekordbox for CDJ USB export and add Capsule for the locked laptop and the browser. Two folders can share a stick: Pioneer export for the players, Capsule for the software booth. They are not the same job and should not be forced into one clone product.
  • For the clock, go to Settings > Audio, pick ASIO, run MIDI Learn and choose the DVS mode matching the control tone actually pressed to your vinyl. Rehearse offline, confirm 44.1 or 48 kHz against the interface, and only turn on Icecast if you actually broadcast. Demucs models for stems download ahead of time — they are not inside the 15 MB.
  • The Serato alternative, the Traktor alternative and the MIDI-browser guide cover the rest of the cluster. Clone hunting is the wrong sport. Pioneer’s suite stays Pioneer’s; Capsule stays a 15 MB workstation with a timecode bridge.
  • The Capsule home page and the pro-audio page cover the rest of the setup.

FAQ

Is Komby DJ a rekordbox clone?

No. Pioneer’s suite stays Pioneer’s. Capsule is a ~15 MB portable browser with a DJ web app and a DVS bridge that can use rekordbox timecode. /pro-audio.

Can Capsule export a USB that a CDJ will read like rekordbox?

This page does not claim Pioneer USB player export. Use rekordbox when that is the contract. Use Capsule when the software runs on your stick.

Does the DJ app need the club network?

Not for local files, ASIO, MIDI, DVS, recording. Icecast needs a network. PRO: 7-day offline grace.

How big is Capsule?

About 15 MB, USB, no admin. Demucs is a separate download. Komby Limited. /download.

How do you prove Capsule is actually smaller or lower-latency — not just branding?

Weigh the copied Capsule folder (about 15 MB stated; Demucs extra). Launch with no admin. For audio: Settings > Audio, buffer 128 at 48 kHz ≈ 2.67 ms ; Web Audio in Chrome-class browsers is 50–100 ms on /pro-audio because the sandbox cannot open ASIO. Komby Limited. No invented competitor installer sizes.

Do I still need Dashlane, 1Password or Bitwarden if I use Capsule?

Not for the local vault job. Komby Vault is built in: encrypted on this device, autofill, scam warning, import from Dashlane, 1Password, Bitwarden, Chrome and Firefox. It is not Dashlane’s cloud sync. Keep a cloud manager only if you require their SaaS. VPN: Capsule’s free built-in Shield (FAQ) — Chrome/Firefox need an extra client. Nightclub audio is a separate PRO licence. Komby Limited. /download.

What makes Capsule a motion-design browser — is that just marketing?

Check the chrome. Changelog 3.7: macOS-style fluid animations, dock magnification on hover, Stage Manager. 3.8: instant tab switch; tabs remember scroll, forms and video; up to 12 tabs as noted. 3.12: no previous-page flash, snappier start, live address bar. Chrome/Firefox do not ship that dock. Safari’s motion is the Apple OS, not a ~15 MB USB browser. No invented animation numbers. Komby Limited. /download.

Is Capsule the first portable browser in the world?

No. Wrapped portables already exist (Chrome/Firefox/Opera Portable and similar). Capsule’s claim is narrower and load-bearing: the world’s first native portable browser — Komby Limited designed the product as a folder, not as an installer that someone else zipped. Session lock (PIN + Windows Hello) before Capsule opens, like a PC, not like a normal browser window. /download.
